Mayor Burt Ussery
Burt Ussery and his wife, Cindy, have lived in the Clearwater area for 11 years. They have four children and seven grandchildren. Burt and his family moved to Clearwater specifically for the outstanding schools and small town appeal. Their daughter Margaret is a 2012 graduate of Clearwater High School and now a senior at Wichita State University and they have four grandchildren currently in Clearwater Schools.
Burt is a retired U.S. Marine Officer having served 21 years. He is also a retired business executive with over 20 years with extensive background in human resources, planning, process improvement, operations, and business development. He has attended Chaminade University of Hawaii, Charleston Southern University, and the University of Phoenix.
City Council & Community Involvement
Burt has served on the Clearwater Council since 2013. As councilmember he has focused on strong financial reporting and accountability. During this short two year period the City has seen improvements in our parks and sports complex, the addition of new business growth, and the increased activity in the housing availability. The City has completed worked on water availability and making progress on having our waste water system meet all required standards.
As Mayor, Burt is dedicated to continue focus on growth in residential and commercial opportunities. It is his goal to increase community involvement in making Clearwater a great place to work, live and raise a family. To build relationships and partner with local residents, civic and business leaders, and the school leadership to create a vision for the future. He will as be an active member of the surrounding community, continuing his work with the Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (WAMPO), with Regional Economic Area Partnership of South Central Kansas (REAP) and other organizations which will assist in keeping Clearwater visible to opportunities.
Clearwater is an outstanding community filled with great people all wanting to make this a great place to live! We hope anyone who comes for a visit doesn’t want to leave!
